Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, emphasized that the government is focused on enhancing energy security through strategic reserves and improved inventory management. Current domestic LPG production stands at around 50-52 thousand metric tonnes per day, against a demand of 72 thousand metric tonnes, with the shortfall met through imports. To combat hoarding, authorities have conducted over 6,500 raids in LPG distribution networks, leading to multiple arrests. The increase in commercial LPG prices is expected to impact operating costs for businesses reliant on these cylinders.
