In response to potential disruptions from the ongoing conflict in West Asia, the Indian Ministry of Rural Development has reviewed its key schemes to safeguard beneficiaries. The ministry announced the release of ₹17,744 crore as the first instalment for wage payments under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), ensuring job security. The MGNREGS will continue until it is replaced by the proposed Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission scheme, which has a budget of ₹95,692 crore for the current fiscal year. Furthermore, the ministry aims to construct 49.5 million houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) by March 2029, emphasizing timely fund transfers and completion of housing projects to counteract potential material supply disruptions. Additionally, the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) has sanctioned 12,100 km of road works, which are currently in the tendering phase. The ministry is also implementing structural measures, such as creating material banks, to enhance resilience against market volatility.
