In an effort to improve anti-rabies treatment in New Delhi, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is set to procure 120,000 anti-rabies vials over the next two years. The estimated cost for this procurement is ₹2.52 crore (approximately $303,000 USD). This initiative is designed to ensure that victims of dog and animal bites receive uninterrupted treatment through the city's public health network, which includes over 280 health units such as hospitals and dispensaries. The MCD has also allocated ₹35 crore in its 2026-27 budget for the microchipping and vaccination of stray dogs, highlighting its commitment to animal control and public health. The tender for the vaccine procurement has been issued under a two-bid system, inviting eligible manufacturers to participate. This program is particularly crucial for low-income neighborhoods where MCD-run facilities are often the first point of care for dog-bite victims.
