The Patiala House Court in New Delhi has reserved its order on the interim bail plea of Abdul Rashid Sheikh (also known as Engineer Rashid), a Member of Parliament from Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir. Sheikh is seeking bail to meet his father, who is critically ill and on a ventilator. Special Judge Prashant Sharma heard arguments from both Sheikh's counsel, Advocate Vikhyat Oberoi, and the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) for the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Gautam Khazanchi. The NIA opposed the bail request citing a secret report, although they indicated no objection to granting custody parole for Sheikh to meet his father. Oberoi contended that the secret report is inadmissible unless disclosed to Sheikh. The court will deliver its decision on April 24. Sheikh is currently in judicial custody at Tihar Jail in connection with a terror funding case and has previously been granted interim bail to participate in Lok Sabha sessions.
