In a significant ruling, a special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) sentenced seven individuals, including T Naseer, a member of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), to seven years of rigorous imprisonment. The case revolves around a conspiracy that was orchestrated inside the Parapanna Agrahara Central Prisons in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, aimed at recruiting and training inmates for terrorist activities. The accused had pleaded guilty to charges related to this conspiracy, which was uncovered after the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch registered the case in July 2023 following the seizure of arms and digital devices from habitual offenders. The NIA later took over the investigation and revealed a larger plot to facilitate Naseer's escape from custody. The court also imposed a fine of βΉ48,000 (approximately $580 USD) on the convicted individuals. The investigation has led to the arrest of 11 accused, with ongoing efforts to apprehend an absconder named Junaid Ahmed.
