Delhi's Sunder Nursery is set to enhance its ecological offerings with a new ₹10 crore Garden House, designed to showcase India's desert and tropical habitats. The two-storey structure, inspired by famous gardens like Kew Gardens in London, will be built in the northeastern corner of the nursery and aims to educate around 500,000 school children annually. The project, led by architect Ashok B Lall, will take two to three years to complete. It will feature a variety of ecosystems, including a sheltered area for succulents, a section for tropical plants with maintained humidity, and a zone for dense tropical plants. The Garden House will also include exhibition spaces, a small nursery, and a cafe, making it a unique educational facility in Delhi. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the understanding of ecology among students and nature enthusiasts in the region, as there are currently no parks in Delhi that provide such comprehensive ecological education.
