From June 7, households in Delhi will face a price increase of ₹29 for a domestic LPG cylinder, bringing the cost to ₹942. This adjustment marks the second hike in three months, following a ₹60 increase in March, attributed to disruptions in global energy supplies linked to conflicts in West Asia. State-run oil marketing companies have been facing significant losses, estimated at ₹703 per cylinder sold prior to this increase. Alongside LPG, petrol and diesel prices have also seen cumulative increases of ₹7.50 per litre since mid-May. Despite these hikes, oil companies continue to sell fuel below cost, leading to further losses. Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, highlighted that under-recoveries on LPG remain substantial, while the government is taking measures to enhance domestic production and secure imports to manage supply. She noted a reduction in LPG demand due to lower consumption from commercial users and improved delivery systems. The ministry reassured that despite geopolitical tensions, the supply of crude oil, LPG, and natural gas remains stable in the country.
