When encryption is active, a lock icon will appear at the top of RCS chats, indicating that the conversation is secure. While Apple continues to use its iMessage protocol for messages between Apple devices, this development marks a significant step towards secure communication between iOS and Android users without relying on third-party apps like Signal or WhatsApp. Alongside this feature, iOS 26.5 also includes minor updates for iPadOS, macOS Tahoe, and watchOS, but the focus remains on enhancing messaging security.
