Bridgeport Public Schools is set to host its 43rd Annual Math Meet on May 28 at the University of Bridgeport’s Charles A. Dana Hall. This year, 132 students from 22 middle schools in the district will participate in a timed mathematics competition that emphasizes problem-solving and reasoning skills. Participants will use pencils and four-function calculators to tackle various math problems, and their scores will determine individual and team rankings. Dr. Royce Avery highlighted the event's significance in showcasing students' abilities and fostering a supportive academic environment. Herminio Planas noted that the Math Meet continues a tradition that began in the 1980s, celebrating curiosity and a love for learning. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., culminating in an awards ceremony that recognizes top-performing students, the top three schools, and the district’s most improved school. A championship banner will also be awarded to the first-place team, marking a celebration of academic achievement in the Bridgeport community.
