On Friday, five men were arrested in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India, for allegedly robbing commuters after offering them lifts. The suspects are believed to have targeted individuals in the National Capital Region (NCR), taking them to isolated locations where they would rob them at gunpoint. Police reported that the gang forced victims to transfer money through UPI payments. One notable incident occurred on January 11, when the gang robbed a 21-year-old man of ₹8,000 (approximately $96 USD) and his ATM cards after offering him a ride from Sector 62 in Noida to Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh. Following a tip-off, police apprehended the suspects, aged between 18 and 21, in Sector 39. During the arrest, officers recovered a countrymade pistol, three knives, and an SUV that had a fake number plate. Authorities are now working to identify other victims who may have been targeted by this gang. Police have advised commuters to verify the identity of drivers and vehicle details before accepting rides to ensure their safety.
