Secretary-General Mattias Grafström reported a positive meeting with Iranian football president Mehdi Taj, expressing optimism about Iran's involvement in the tournament scheduled from June 11 to July 19, 2026. Iran is set to play all three of its Group G matches in the United States, starting against New Zealand on June 15. Concerns regarding travel permissions arose after Taj was denied entry into Canada for the FIFA Congress, attributed to alleged connections with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which both the U.S. and Canada classify as a terrorist organization. While Grafström refrained from providing specific details about visa arrangements, he confirmed that operational issues were addressed during discussions. Taj expressed satisfaction with FIFA's responsiveness to the Iranian federation's concerns, indicating that solutions were offered for all ten points raised. Iran's squad will conduct a training camp in Turkey before heading to their tournament base in Tucson, Arizona, as they prepare for their matches against Belgium and Egypt.
