Sukhjeet Kaur, a Block Development Panchayat Officer (BDPO) in Maloud block of Ludhiana district, Punjab, was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹15,000. The arrest occurred after a complaint from a resident of Sohian village, who claimed that he and other villagers had completed work on interlocking tiles and drainage for a playground. The villagers undertook this work following a request from a Ludhiana executive engineer, aiming to prepare the site for an inauguration. When the complainant approached Kaur to clear the bill, she demanded a bribe, initially accepting ₹5,000 on the spot and asking for an additional ₹10,000 later. The complainant recorded their conversation, which led to the Vigilance Bureau laying a trap that resulted in Kaur's arrest while accepting the bribe. A case has been registered against her under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigations are ongoing.
