Akshaya Tritiya, celebrated on April 19 this year, is regarded as an auspicious occasion for purchasing gold. Analysts from Kotak Securities report that gold has yielded impressive returns, with prices increasing 45% on COMEX and 63% on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) since the last Akshaya Tritiya. Currently, gold prices on MCX are around ₹1,53,156 per 10 grams, while silver is priced at ₹2,50,091 per kilogram. Historical data indicates that gold typically delivers strong returns, averaging 30% annually over the past five years. Key factors behind the recent gold rally include significant central bank purchases, which accounted for nearly a quarter of global consumption, and a surge in gold-backed exchange-traded funds (ETFs), which have grown from $235 billion in assets in 2020 to a record $606 billion by March 2026. In India, gold demand is shifting towards investment formats, with coins and bars gaining popularity. Analysts recommend maintaining a gold allocation of 8-15% in investment portfolios and suggest considering silver as a tactical addition, making up 20-25% of the precious metals basket.
