Electric vehicle (EV) adoption in Punjab, India, is accelerating, with sales increasing by 48% from 24,008 units in 2024 to 35,631 in 2025, according to a report by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The growth is primarily driven by electric two-wheelers, which saw sales rise from 19,858 units in 2024 to 27,264 in 2025. In the first quarter of 2026, over 7,540 EVs were sold, indicating sustained demand. The four-wheeler segment also gained traction, doubling sales from 4,150 units in 2024 to 8,367 in 2025. However, electric bus adoption has been disappointing, with only 13 registered in 2024 and none in 2026 so far. Punjab has installed 1,505 public charging stations, contributing to the national total of 49,909. The state government has proposed a ₹50 crore (approximately $6 million USD) incentive scheme to attract EV manufacturers and has extended its EV policy until February 2027 to further support the transition to cleaner mobility.
