A 17-year-old girl diagnosed with advanced Stage 3 Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer, has made a remarkable recovery after nearly 10 days on ventilator support at Fortis Hospital in Shalimar Bagh, Delhi. Upon admission, she faced severe respiratory distress, septic shock, and low blood oxygen levels, necessitating intensive care. Investigations revealed a large tumor from her ribs had occupied her right lung, severely affecting her lung function. After stabilizing her condition, Dr. Suhail Qureshi and his team initiated chemotherapy in the ICU, despite the risks involved. Over the following 15 days, the teenager showed gradual improvement and eventually weaned off respiratory support. A subsequent Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan confirmed that the cancer remained localized to her chest, significantly enhancing her chances of recovery. Dr. Qureshi emphasized that while Ewing's Sarcoma is aggressive, it can be curable when diagnosed and treated promptly.
