Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V.V. Rajesh visited the modernised slaughterhouse at Kunnukuzhy, which is nearing completion and expected to be operational soon. This facility has been upgraded with advanced technology and sanitation measures, ensuring hygienic meat processing for the public. With an investment of nearly ₹10 crore (approximately $1.2 million USD), the slaughterhouse is designed to handle 75 large animals and 50 small animals daily. A dedicated veterinary team will inspect animals before slaughter, rejecting any that are diseased or pregnant. The facility will also treat solid waste on-site using a biogas plant, addressing pollution issues caused by illegal slaughterhouses. Mayor Rajesh emphasized that this modern facility will help the Corporation enforce regulations against unauthorized abattoirs, thereby improving urban cleanliness and reducing the stray dog population caused by waste disposal from illegal operations.
