India's automobile industry kicked off the financial year 2027 with impressive growth, as reported by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). In April 2023, domestic passenger vehicle dispatches surged 26% year-on-year, totaling nearly 4.4 lakh units. This growth is largely attributed to the sustained demand for sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and two-wheelers, despite rising commodity costs linked to geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Utility vehicles, particularly SUVs, continued to dominate the market, with dispatches rising 20% to 2.4 lakh units. Passenger car sales experienced a remarkable increase of 33%, reaching 1.2 lakh units, while van sales also saw a 14.4% rise to 13,087 units. The two-wheeler segment exhibited strong performance, with overall dispatches climbing 28% to 18.7 lakh units. Motorcycle sales increased 30.6% to 11.3 lakh units, and scooter dispatches grew 26.2% to 6.9 lakh units. Furthermore, three-wheeler sales maintained a strong upward trend, rising 32.8% to 65,668 units.
