In April 2026, domestic passenger vehicle dispatches in India rose by 25.4% year-on-year, reaching 437,312 units, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). This growth reflects a strong demand momentum carried over from the previous fiscal year, aided by a reduction in Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates. Utility vehicles were the primary growth driver, with dispatches increasing by 21.5% to 244,280 units. Passenger car dispatches also saw significant growth, rising by 32.7% to 120,945 units. Additionally, total vehicle wholesales across all categories increased by 27.9%, totaling 2,316,671 units. SIAM's Director General, Rajesh Menon, noted that despite concerns regarding high commodity prices due to disruptions in West Asia, the auto industry continues to witness robust demand.
