India's automobile industry began FY27 on a strong note, with total production across various segments rising 26% year-on-year to 2.92 million units in April. Domestic dispatches also saw a significant increase of 27.9%, reaching 2.31 million units, while exports surged by 38% to 628,128 units. The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam) reported that passenger vehicle (PV) dispatches rose 25.4% to a record 437,312 units, with two-wheeler and three-wheeler sales also experiencing robust growth. Notably, two-wheeler exports increased by 38.3% to 509,199 units, while three-wheeler exports surged 84% to 50,655 units. Automakers like Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra & Mahindra reported substantial increases in domestic sales, reflecting strong consumer demand. However, Siam cautioned that rising commodity prices due to disruptions in West Asia could present challenges in the future, despite the healthy underlying demand.
