Taylor Rooks, a prominent sports journalist and studio host for Amazon Prime’s NBA coverage, has made a significant impact in her hometown of Gwinnett County, Georgia. Through her foundation, the Taylor Rooks Foundation, and in collaboration with the non-profit organization Undue Medical Debt, they have successfully eliminated over $2 million in medical debt for more than 1,800 residents. Rooks highlighted the importance of relieving individuals from the burden of medical bills, noting that nearly 28 percent of households with a Black householder carry medical debt, compared to 17 percent of white non-Hispanic households. This disparity is particularly pronounced in the Southern United States, where medical debt is more prevalent. Rooks shared her personal connection to the issue, mentioning her sister's struggle with Type 1 Diabetes, which has made her acutely aware of the financial stresses associated with medical expenses. The Taylor Rooks Foundation, launched in 2025, aims to promote equity and provide resources for families to thrive, alleviating financial pressures and enabling individuals to focus on their health and well-being.
