Milind Narvekar (Shiv Sena - UBT), a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, has expressed concerns regarding the inauguration of the Missing Link project on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. In a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, dated April 27, 2026, Narvekar congratulated the government on nearing completion of this significant infrastructure initiative, which aims to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Pune by nearly 30 minutes and alleviate traffic congestion in the accident-prone Bhor Ghat section. However, he stressed the importance of prioritizing safety and technical readiness before opening the route to traffic, citing the corridor's complex nature and vulnerability to severe weather conditions. Narvekar proposed a phased operational approach, suggesting that only passenger vehicles be allowed for the first six months, while heavy vehicles should continue using the existing route to minimize congestion. He also urged that tankers carrying hazardous materials should not be permitted on the new stretch until comprehensive safety assessments are conducted. This caution follows a recent incident where a truck carrying flammable liquid caused significant traffic delays on the expressway. Narvekar's recommendations aim to ensure the safety of thousands of daily commuters and transport operators once the Missing Link is operational.
