Aurora Phelps, a 44-year-old dual US-Mexican citizen, is currently on trial in Mexico for the murder of Robert Erbach, a 67-year-old retired US citizen, who was found dead in December 2021 after dating Phelps for three months. The FBI has warned that Phelps has a history of targeting older men on dating apps, luring them into dangerous situations, and stealing their money. Following their meeting on Tinder, Erbach was found dead from asphyxiation, and Phelps allegedly took control of his finances, stealing $50,500 and impersonating him to mislead his family. She has been charged with numerous counts in the US, including wire fraud and identity theft, and is facing extradition after her trial in Mexico concludes. The FBI believes she may have drugged her victims to access their financial information and is seeking other potential victims to come forward. If convicted on all charges in the US, Phelps could face a life sentence.
