Vijay, leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is scheduled to meet Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to discuss the formation of the next state government following a historic election win where TVK secured 108 seats in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections. However, this is 10 seats short of the 118-seat majority required to stake a claim for government formation. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), led by outgoing Chief Minister MK Stalin, emerged as the second-largest party with 59 seats, while the AIADMK and Indian National Congress won 47 and 5 seats, respectively. During the meeting, the governor may present Vijay with two options: either gather support from allied parties to reach the majority or form a minority government. Currently, the TVK is in discussions with Congress for support, but will need additional backing to secure the necessary seats. Notably, Vijay won in both constituencies he contested, which will require him to resign from one, thereby reducing TVK's total seat count to 107. Additionally, appointing an assembly speaker will further decrease this number to 106, necessitating Vijay to secure at least 12 more seats to claim the government.
