C Joseph Vijay, the chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), was elected as the party's legislative leader by newly elected MLAs on Tuesday. This election follows TVK's impressive performance in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, where they secured 108 seats out of 234. However, they fell short of the 118 seats needed to form a government, necessitating support from either the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led Secular Progressive Alliance or the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)-led National Democratic Alliance. Vijay is expected to meet Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar in Chennai on Wednesday to discuss the next steps. In a social media post, Vijay expressed gratitude for the support from political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi, emphasizing his commitment to the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu. The DMK won 59 seats, while the AIADMK secured 47 seats in the elections held on April 23.
