Amritpal Singh, the Khadoor Sahib MP, appeared virtually from Dibrugarh Central Jail during the hearing of the Ajnala police station siege case. His defense attorney, Rituraj Singh Sandhu, requested more time to review the 1,200-page chargesheet filed by the Punjab Police, leading to the adjournment of the hearing until May 7. Singh has been charged with several offenses under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 307 (attempt to murder) and Section 25 of the Arms Act, among others. Following his re-arrest on April 23, after the expiration of his detention under the National Security Act (NSA), Singh remains in judicial custody. The Punjab and Haryana High Court recently permitted the Punjab government's request to keep him detained in Assam, where a police team traveled to conduct his remand locally.
