Himanta Biswa Sarma will take the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Assam for a second consecutive term on Tuesday. This follows a significant victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the recent Assembly elections, where they won 102 out of 126 seats. Sarma, at 57 years old, will be the first non-Congress leader in Assam to serve two successive terms. The oath will be administered by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at the Veterinary Field in Khanapara, Guwahati, at 11:40 AM. Alongside Sarma, four other MLAs will also take their oaths, including Ajanta Neog and Rameshwar Teli from the BJP, Atul Bora from the Asom Gana Parishad, and Charan Boro from the Bodoland People's Front. The NDA's victory marks its third consecutive term in Assam, having first come to power in 2016 under former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to attract over one lakh attendees, prompting increased security measures across Guwahati.
