With the Election Commission of India announcing the schedule for the Municipal Corporation and Municipal Council elections in Punjab, political parties are ramping up their activities in Mohali. Nominations will be accepted from May 13 to May 16, with polling scheduled for May 26 and results to be declared on May 29. Punjab Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal stated that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) aims to select candidates who prioritize public service and have a strong connection with the community. He emphasized that the party is focused on genuine public service rather than power politics, with a clear criterion for ticket distribution based on candidates' outreach and commitment. Goyal also mentioned that women candidates would be given opportunities in both reserved and general wards if they meet the party's standards. Meanwhile, the Congress party is actively meeting with councillors and ticket aspirants, while the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is preparing to announce its candidates. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also finalizing its list of aspirants, with announcements expected by May 13. As the nomination deadline approaches, all parties are under pressure to finalize their candidates quickly.
