The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has strongly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the appointment of Manoj Agarwal, the former Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal, as the state's Chief Secretary. TMC leader Saket Gokhale expressed outrage on social media, labeling the move as 'beyond shameless' and suggesting that it indicates collusion between the BJP and the Election Commission of India (ECI) in manipulating the electoral process. Agarwal, a 1990-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, was responsible for overseeing the electoral rolls during the recent assembly elections, where approximately 91 lakh voters were removed. This controversial appointment comes just two days after Subrata Gupta, a special roll observer from the ECI, was appointed as an advisor to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, raising further concerns about the integrity of the electoral process. TMC leaders have questioned whether the elections were truly free and fair, calling for scrutiny of the relationship between the BJP and electoral authorities.
