Joseph Vijay, known as Thalapathy Vijay, was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10, 2026, following a hung assembly election. The Tamil Nadu Vanniyar Katchi (TVK) party emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats but fell short of the 118-seat majority required to form a government. After a series of negotiations with smaller parties, including Congress, VCK, CPI, CPM, and IUML, Vijay secured support totaling 120 seats. His meetings with Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar were crucial in formalizing this support. A cabinet of nine ministers from TVK will also be sworn in alongside him. The swearing-in ceremony is set to take place at 10 AM at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, with heightened security measures in place.
