Joseph Vijay, popularly known as Thalapathy Vijay, was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10, 2026, following a politically charged six-day period after the assembly elections held on May 4, 2026. His party, the Tamil Nadu Vanniyar Katchi (TVK), emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats, but Vijay needed to secure additional support to reach the 118-seat majority required to form a government. Through negotiations with smaller parties, including Congress, VCK, CPI, CPM, and IUML, he successfully garnered enough backing, bringing the total to 120 seats. This marked a historic moment as Vijay became the first leader outside the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) formations to lead Tamil Nadu since 1967.
