Jharkhand has made notable strides in improving school enrollment and reducing dropout rates, according to a recent report by the NITI Aayog. The state achieved zero primary dropout rates for the 2024-25 academic year, a significant improvement from 6.41% in 2014-15. However, challenges remain in foundational learning and the transition to secondary education. To address these issues, the Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) has implemented several reforms, including the introduction of Schools of Excellence (SoEs), which are equipped with modern facilities and aim to retain students within the public education system. Currently, 80 SoEs are operational, with plans to expand by adding 100 more. Additionally, vocational education programs are being introduced to prepare students for the job market and reduce dropout rates among economically disadvantaged students. Innovations such as Atal Tinkering Labs are fostering creativity and scientific inquiry among students. Despite these advancements, the state continues to face challenges related to teacher shortages and uneven student-teacher ratios, prompting ongoing recruitment efforts. Overall, Jharkhand's educational reforms are gradually transforming government schools into centers of quality learning and skill development.
