Dr. Nikhil Tandon has been named the acting Director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, effective immediately. This appointment follows the transition of Dr. M Srinivas, who was relieved from his position to become a full-time member of NITI Aayog, India's policy think tank. Dr. Tandon, who is currently a senior professor and Head of the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at AIIMS, will oversee the director's responsibilities alongside his existing duties. His appointment is temporary, lasting up to six months or until a permanent director is appointed. Notably, Dr. Tandon will not receive any additional compensation for these extra responsibilities. With 25 years of experience in the public healthcare system, Tandon specializes in cardio-metabolic diseases and has led significant epidemiological studies on the prevalence of related risk factors. His research has contributed to a deeper understanding of childhood obesity genetics and its associations with inflammatory pathways.
