According to Ivan Bolotov, director of the Laverov Federal Research Center for Integrated Arctic Studies, the Arctic is expected to reach its peak warming phase between 2030 and 2035, after which a return to colder winters is anticipated. This prediction is rooted in the 80-year climate cycle model proposed by Professor Yury Shvartsman, who has studied climate patterns extensively. He noted that the Arctic has been experiencing rapid warming, which is exacerbated by increasing temperature gradients from the equator to the poles. Over the past four decades, the ice period on the White Sea has significantly diminished, with ice forming and melting two weeks later than historically recorded. Additionally, the warming has facilitated the encroachment of forest zones into traditionally tundra areas. While the warming trend poses challenges, it has also resulted in longer navigation periods on the Northern Sea Route, enhancing shipping opportunities in the region.
