In a recent operation in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, police and excise officials dismantled a liquor smuggling network that cleverly used coded messages on tejpatta (bay leaves) and ₹1 notes to facilitate deliveries. The operation was discovered when authorities intercepted a vehicle carrying 180 liters of spirit, which was disguised as homeopathic medicine. Further investigation led to the uncovering of an illegal liquor manufacturing unit at a poultry farm owned by Sumit Patel and Neeraj Sahni, where an additional 150 liters of spirit were seized. The smugglers transported the liquor from Uttarakhand to Delhi, and then to Muzaffarpur, using local smugglers for final delivery. The police have identified key figures in the operation, including a kingpin known as Raja Kumar, but many remain at large. This operation highlights the lengths to which traffickers will go to evade law enforcement in a state where alcohol is banned.
