The Indian government is actively monitoring fuel supply amid rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia, particularly affecting the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for oil shipments. On April 20, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas reported that domestic LPG cylinder deliveries are normal, with 53.5 lakh cylinders delivered the previous day. Despite this, the prices of both domestic and commercial LPG cylinders have increased due to supply constraints linked to the ongoing conflict in the region. The government has also noted a significant rise in crude oil prices, with US crude oil climbing 6.4% to $87.88 per barrel and Brent crude increasing 6.5% to $96.25 per barrel. To mitigate the impact on consumers, the government has reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel by ₹10 per litre. Additionally, the Ministry has conducted over 2,400 raids to combat hoarding and black marketing of LPG. Citizens are advised to avoid panic purchases as the government assures that it is taking all necessary measures to maintain fuel availability.
