The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has addressed public concerns regarding LPG availability, labeling recent media reports about a potential shortage as misleading. The ministry confirmed that India is diversifying its LPG imports from countries like the United States, Norway, Canada, Algeria, and Russia, with 800 thousand metric tons (TMT) of assured cargoes currently en route. Additionally, domestic refineries have been directed to maximize LPG production, increasing daily output by 40% to 50 TMT against a requirement of approximately 80 TMT. Cylinder distribution remains stable, with an average of 5 million cylinders delivered daily in March. The ministry noted that India's LPG infrastructure has significantly improved over the past decade, with connections rising from 145.2 million to 333.9 million and the number of distributors increasing from 13,896 to 25,607. Officials urged the public to rely on verified information, highlighting a coordinated misinformation campaign aimed at creating panic.
