Sagar Adani, an executive at the Adani Group, spoke at the Economist's Resilient Futures Summit in New Delhi about the importance of electrifying everything as a defense against global energy risks, particularly in light of tensions in the Middle East and their impact on supply chains. He noted that India's per-capita energy consumption is only about one-third of the global average and one-fifth of China's, indicating a significant gap that needs to be addressed. To achieve its goal of becoming a developed economy by 2047, India must add nearly 2,000 gigawatts of new energy capacity over the next two decades. Adani emphasized the need for a diverse energy mix, including renewables, hydro, and nuclear power, to ensure a reliable and affordable energy supply. He also highlighted that India's energy strategy will play a crucial role in shaping global energy markets as urbanization and rising incomes drive demand. With a commitment of over $100 billion towards the energy transition, the Adani Group aims to integrate various energy solutions to enhance India's energy resilience.
