According to the National Crime Records Bureauβs (NCRB) 'Crime in India 2024' report, Delhi has maintained its position as the most unsafe metropolitan city for women for the fourth year in a row. The capital recorded 1,058 rape cases in 2024, more than double that of Jaipur and Mumbai, which reported 497 and 411 cases, respectively. Although this reflects a slight decline from 1,094 cases in 2023 and 1,212 in 2022, the figures remain alarmingly high. Overall, Delhi reported 13,396 crimes against women, down from 13,439 in 2023, but still the highest among major cities. The NCRB data indicates that Delhi has a crime rate of 176.8 per 100,000 people, significantly higher than other cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru. Additionally, the city recorded 3,974 cases of kidnapping and abduction, far exceeding the numbers reported in Mumbai and Bengaluru. While police officials attribute the high numbers to increased reporting and awareness, the situation remains concerning. In terms of juvenile crime, Delhi also leads with 2,306 cases involving children in conflict with the law, highlighting a persistent issue in the capital's safety landscape.
