On Monday, the Delhi High Court dismissed a criminal complaint filed by Samir Modi, the former executive director of Godfrey Phillips India, against his mother, Bina Modi, who is also the company's chairperson and managing director. The court's decision came after Samir indicated that he had reached a mutual settlement with his mother regarding the case. However, the court pointed out that there was no formal settlement deed and no financial terms were specified. The complaint arose from an incident in May 2024, when Samir attempted to attend a board meeting but was allegedly prevented by Bina's personal security officer, Surendra Prasad, who claimed to be acting on her orders. Samir reported that he was physically assaulted during this confrontation, resulting in a fractured finger that required surgery. Earlier this year, the trial court had acknowledged the case, finding sufficient evidence to suggest possible involvement of the accused, leading to summons being issued to Bina and others.
