Chandigarh is facing an increase in stomach infections linked to soaring temperatures, with health facilities reporting a significant rise in cases. Dr. Suman Singh, director of Health Services for Chandigarh Administration, noted that in just ten days, the Government Medical Specialty Hospital in Sector 16 has seen 42 cases of diarrhoea and 226 cases in the Out-Patient Department (OPD). Experts attribute this surge to temperature fluctuations that weaken immunity and facilitate the spread of viruses. Dr. Vikas Bhutani emphasizes the importance of drinking boiled or filtered water to avoid infections from contaminated sources. He also advises against consuming street food, cut fruits, and raw salads, which can lead to gastroenteritis and other tropical illnesses. Dr. Rakesh Kochhar further stresses the need for vigilance regarding food safety and proper storage to prevent food poisoning. Maintaining hydration, a balanced diet, and good sleep hygiene are essential for strengthening immunity during this period.
