On Sunday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh expanded his cabinet, inducting six new ministers, which includes two at cabinet rank and four ministers of state. This move is perceived as a strategic effort to enhance the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) socio-political equations ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. The newly appointed ministers comprise a mix of Brahmin, OBC, and Dalit leaders, indicating an effort to balance caste representation. Among the new cabinet ministers are Bhupendra Chaudhary, a former UP BJP president, and Manoj Pandey, a former minister from the Samajwadi Party. The new ministers of state include Krishna Paswan, Kailash Rajput, Surendra Diler, and Hansraj Vishwakarma, all of whom are first-time ministers. Additionally, two ministers of state have been elevated to independent charge. This expansion brings the total number of cabinet ministers to 23, with the overall strength of the ministry reaching 60, the maximum allowed. Finance Minister Suresh Khanna emphasized that this restructuring aims to ensure exemplary governance.
