In a bid to combat organized crime linked to cross-border activities, Punjab Police has implemented a significant security upgrade by installing more than 2,290 CCTV cameras across 585 locations along the state's border. This initiative is part of the 'Gangstran Te Vaar' campaign, which aims to prevent contraband from moving further into the state. The Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, emphasized that this second line of defense is crucial for the state's anti-gangster strategy. The installation of cameras complements the existing Border Security Force (BSF) efforts and enhances surveillance in vulnerable villages and transit routes. Additionally, 41 police stations in border districts are now equipped with CCTV coverage, improving real-time intelligence and targeted vehicle checks. The police have also intensified anti-drone vigilance in areas known for illicit drops of arms and narcotics. This comprehensive approach aims to disrupt the criminal ecosystem by ensuring swift detection and neutralization of any illegal activities.
