In a significant development, four personnel from the Chhattisgarh Police, including an inspector, were detained in Guwahati, Assam, for allegedly demanding and accepting bribes from three individuals arrested in a cybercrime case. The police team from Raipur had traveled to Assam as part of their investigation into a cyber fraud case registered in Chhattisgarh. Following their arrest of suspects, two of the detainees approached the Dispur Police Station, claiming they were released after paying bribes, while another accused remained in custody until the payment was arranged. In response to the allegations, Assam Police launched an inquiry and registered a case against the Chhattisgarh officers under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). After preliminary questioning, the officers were released on notice, as the charges are bailable, but they must return for further investigation. A senior police official stated that the Assam Police acted promptly upon receiving the complaint and are preparing a detailed report for the court, which may lead to departmental action against the involved officers. The remaining cybercrime suspect was later released on a personal recognizance bond.
