General NS Raja Subramani has officially assumed the position of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of India, following a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the South Block in New Delhi. He succeeds General Anil Chauhan, who completed his term on May 30. On taking charge, General Subramani expressed gratitude for the trust placed in the Armed Forces and outlined his priorities, which include enhancing military jointness and promoting self-reliance in defense through the development and integration of indigenous weapons. Appointed on May 9, he also serves as the Secretary to the Government of India in the Department of Military Affairs. With a military career spanning over four decades, General Subramani has held various significant roles, including Military Adviser at the National Security Council and Vice Chief of the Army Staff. His extensive experience includes commanding operations in challenging environments and contributing to military strategy and operations. He has been recognized with multiple awards for his distinguished service.
