In an effort to tackle persistent congestion in Gurugram's old city, the district traffic police have launched a trial traffic diversion plan affecting a four-kilometre stretch from Old Railway Road to Mahavir Chowk. Starting Monday, diversions will reroute vehicles heading towards Agrasen Chowk, Gurugram railway station, and Mahavir Chowk, aiming to alleviate pressure on MG Road and Sadar Bazaar. Jai Singh, assistant commissioner of police (Traffic West-I), emphasized that the new direct link road from Agrasen Chowk to Sector 15 is designed to minimize congestion at two major roundabouts and reduce travel time. The initiative also seeks to curb wrong-side driving during peak hours. Increased police presence has been deployed to enforce the new routes, while designated parking spaces for e-rickshaws have been created to declutter the area. Traffic experts highlight that heavy vehicle movement and road narrowing near Agrasen Chowk contribute to bottlenecks. Future plans include enhanced signage to guide commuters and further improvements to ensure smooth traffic flow.
