As Jammu and Kashmir approaches the final phase of its 100-day anti-drug campaign, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha introduced two key initiatives aimed at combating drug addiction. The Community Immunisation Programme will involve partnerships with religious leaders and social organizations to promote community awareness and monitoring in five to ten high-risk areas per district. Sinha emphasized the importance of schools, temples, mosques, and NGOs dedicating time weekly to this cause. The Family Fortress Initiative aims to strengthen family bonds as a defense against drug addiction, encouraging open dialogues in schools and places of worship. In the last month, over 2,35,000 outreach events have been conducted, resulting in the treatment of 44,000 outpatient department (OPD) patients and the arrest of nearly 700 drug smugglers. Enforcement actions have included the suspension of 150 drug store licenses and the installation of 3,000 CCTV cameras at drug stores to enhance monitoring efforts.
