Mexico's government confirmed that two CIA agents killed in a car crash in Chihuahua state were not authorized to participate in operations within the country. The agents were reportedly returning from a mission to destroy a clandestine drug lab when their vehicle went off a ravine and exploded. The crash also resulted in the deaths of two Mexican officers. According to Mexico's Ministry of Security, one agent entered the country as a visitor and the other with a diplomatic passport, but neither had formal accreditation for operational activities. The ministry emphasized that Mexican law prohibits foreign agents from conducting operations on its territory.
