India has expressed strong support for Japan's recent decision to ease restrictions on arms exports, a move that marks a significant departure from Japan's long-standing pacifist defense policy established after World War II. This change allows Japan to sell lethal weapons to 17 countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, enhancing its defense partnerships amid rising tensions with China in the Indo-Pacific region. Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that this development is crucial for both nations' national security and economic dynamism. The Joint Declaration on Security Cooperation between India and Japan aims to foster technological and industrial collaboration, reinforcing their strategic partnership. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi reiterated Japan's commitment to peace while emphasizing the need for a more proactive defense posture in light of current global security challenges.
