These animated companions act as floating overlays, providing developers with updates on what Codex is working on and notifying them when tasks are completed or require input. Users can easily summon or dismiss these pets by typing '/pet' in the app. The feature includes eight built-in pets, and users can also create their own unique companions using the '/hatch' command, with early adopters already sharing various designs, including versions reminiscent of Microsoft's Clippy. This feature is currently available on both Windows and macOS platforms. Additionally, OpenAI is offering a promotional deal where users can receive 30 days of ChatGPT Pro for their favorite generated companions.
