The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is set to conduct a city-wide HPV vaccination drive today, May 7, as part of its initiative to prevent cervical cancer among adolescent girls. The campaign offers free Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations to girls aged 14 to 15 years at all Urban Health Centres and municipal hospitals. The AMC aims to vaccinate 48,561 girls, with 22,137 already vaccinated since the program's launch in February. Previous mega drives on April 24 and April 30 saw 1,933 and 2,872 girls vaccinated, respectively. The HPV vaccine, typically costing around ₹3,000 (approximately $36 USD) in private facilities, is provided at no charge to ensure accessibility. The campaign combines vaccination with extensive awareness activities, including social media engagement and community outreach, to educate the public about cervical cancer prevention. The vaccination drive will continue until May 30, allowing eligible girls to receive the vaccine at designated health facilities throughout Ahmedabad.
